Pengaruh Pemberian Minyak Atsiri Daun Kemangi (Ocimum americanum L.) Terhadap Motilitas Usus Mencit Putih Jantan

Abstract: Kemangi (Ocimum americanum L.) is a plant that contains essential oils with citral as a main component. Effectivity of citral as intestinal motility inhibition was evaluated. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of essential oil of kemangi leaves (Ocimum americanum L.) on white male mices intestinal motility. Thirty white male mices were divided into six groups, which the negative control group was given 0,2 ml of 0,5% CMC, the positive control group was given atropine sulfate 0,08 ml/20 g BW, the comparison control group was given emulsion citral 0,1 mg/20 g BW, and three of test materials groups were given volatile oil emulsion kemangi leaves (Ocimum americanum L.) doses 0,5 mg/20 g BW; 1 mg/20 g BW, and 2 mg/20 g BW. Then mices was given charcoal meal suspension 0,2 ml orally, and the animals were sacrificed. This measured was expressed as ratio and inhibition percentage. The results showed that the inhibition of essential oil of kemangi leaves (Ocimum americanum L.) dose 2 mg/20 g BW was 59,79%, it did not show significant different (p> 0.05) effect with citral and atropine sulfate. Altogether, essential oil of kemangi leaves (Ocimum americanum L.) has potential as a carminative, antidiarrheal, and antispasmodic agent
